On behalf of the European Space Agency, we are looking for a highly skilled Power Systems Architecture Engineer to work in ESTEC, in the Netherlands.

What is expected from you:

  • Provide technical support on behalf of ESA in some specific type of missions. In particular:
    • Support small and fast track Science missions.
    • Support Earth Explorers and Small EOP missions
    • Support Telecom missions
    • Support Class Beta, Gamma, Delta missions, with high technical risk or fast schedule
    • The candidate shall also support the ESA TO and TRs in specific missions when required.
  • Support ESA Power Systems Architecture personnel in specific tasks for generic missions, providing services related to:
    • Calculations
    • Simulations related to the mission
    • Review specific documents in unit or system reviews
    • Provide feedback to ESA Power Systems Architecture about the findings.
  • Provide power system related technical support in the development of European launchers
  • Provide technical support in the development of cubesats for all ESA applications
  • Provide support to the ESA TO in R&D activities. Support shall be provided to specific tasks related to:
    • Calculations
    • Simulations related to the activity
    • Review specific documents for the activity
    • Provide feedback to ESA personnel about the findings.
  • Support the ESA TR in R&D activities where the SoW is written by industry:
    • Perform the daily work in the development of the activity
    • Organise the monthly meetings
    • Organise and coordinate the activity reviews
    • Provide feedback to ESA TR about the activity development.
  • Support the development of Hands-On activities in the ESA Power Systems Architecture facilities of the ESA Space Power Laboratory. The support shall include specific tasks defined by the ESA TO like:
    • PCB development
    • PCB integration
    • PCB test.
  • Provide technical support in specific CDF studies not related to ESA large missions in the application directories
  • Perform simulations at system level using PEPS/EcosimPro and build new models as needed for the studies
  • Provide feedback to ESA about the CDF study
  • Power Systems Architecture laboratory management, Specifically, perform the following tasks:
    • Equipment procurement
    • EEE parts procurement
    • Organise lab inspections
    • Lab maintenance.

What you offer:

  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar degree is required;
  • General background and specific experience in the technical domains covered by the position;
  • Project support experience in a relevant domain;
  • Spacecraft systems knowledge;
  • Experience in the management and monitoring of industrial activities, including participation in reviews;
  • Hands-on hardware experience;
  • Experience with laboratory or field testing of relevant technical equipment;
  • Experience in the design of power systems at early phase stages of space missions, and the use of relevant tools;
  • Experience in power system analysis, including power and energy budget assessment;
  • Knowledge of analysis and verification for the distribution system and secondary power system;
  • Experience in DC/DC converter design and verification;
  • Experience in power converter control;
  • Experience in the use of electrical simulation tools;
  • Experience in power system support for the launch and early operations phase (LEOP) of space missions.
