We provide a significant contribution to the most major Space programs of the European Space Agency and the European Union Agency for Space Programme. Our core business is to work on the ground to build bridges into space, contributing to the success of ambitious missions.
Currently, we are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel who will work for Telespazio Belgium, in the Netherlands.
The Legal Counsel will be responsible for managing day-to-day legal matters, focusing on Social Law, compliance, risk management, and contract administration, with an emphasis on Dutch, Belgium and European legal (such as Czech Republic, France, Spain,…) frameworks – by importance and priority order. Reporting to the Chief People and Legal Officer, this role will require close collaboration with internal teams and external counsel. Key areas of responsibility include labor law, contract law, trade compliance, corporate governance, export control, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives.
What is expected from you:
- General Corporate Legal Matters:
Manage daily legal operations, including labor law compliance, contract law, insurance, compensation, real estate, litigation, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, and employee benefits. Ensure all activities align with local and European legal standards.
- Corporate Governance / ESG:
Implement and oversee corporate governance obligations to ensure compliance with Dutch and European regulations. Lead efforts in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, aligning practices with sustainability and ethical standards.
- Contracts:
Oversee the negotiation, drafting, and administration of commercial and governmental contracts, ensuring compliance with legal standards and safeguarding the company’s interests.
- Export Control and ITAR Compliance:
Manage compliance with export control regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Oversee licensing, documentation, and audits related to technology and service exports, ensuring compliance with US export laws.
- Licensing and Spectrum Applications:
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on licensing requirements. Collaborate closely with team members managing these applications to ensure timely compliance. - Legal Compliance and Risk Management:
Monitor and ensure compliance with local, EU, and international laws. Proactively identify and manage risks, advising the executive team on preventive measures.
- Policy Development and Implementation:
Develop and implement policies to streamline compliance processes and promote legal best practices across the organization.
- Stakeholder Relations:
Build and maintain relationships with external regulators, legal consultants, and internal teams, ensuring effective communication and trust in all legal matters.
- Training and Development:
Assist in training staff on key legal issues, including compliance, export control, and corporate governance, to enhance the company’s adherence to best practices.
What you offer:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law from a recognized EU institution.
- 4–6 years of relevant legal experience, ideally within a corporate setting or law firm, focusing on employment law, contract law, trade compliance, governance, and export control.
- Proficiency in English and Dutch; knowledge of French or Italian is an advantage.
- Strong expertise in Dutch, Belgium and European corporate law.
- Proven ability to develop legal defensive or proactive strategies.
- High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Outstanding analytical and communication skills.
- Must be open to traveling to Belgium on a monthly basis.
Preferred Assets
- Prior experience as a legal counsel or legal trainee within a law firm or company.
- Advanced studies in Business Administration or related disciplines.
